    Abstract

Ymladd is a 30 minute dance performance created by Sarah Crews in collaboration with USW Dance students. The piece explores the connections and creative possibilities between dance and boxing. The work draws on my experience of training as a boxer in various different gyms and takes into account my observations on the major cultural shifts for female boxers - amateur, professional and those that train recreationally - in recent years. The project has been an explosive collaboration between dance and boxing communities. It aims to give voice to women’s boxing in Wales and to celebrate the female experience of combative forms of training, using boxing technique as a physical vocabulary for dance.
