Abstract

This report brings together a synthesis of quantitative and qualitative data from an online survey and semi-structured interviews with the following aims: 1) to explore the teaching of reading in primary, middle, and special schools before the pandemic, during the pandemic (i.e., periods of school closures), and in the 2021-2022 school year; 2) to explore the impact of the pandemic on reading progress and attainment for learners in these schools, and 3) to summarise current practice in relation to current research evidence, and identify key areas for future research and support for schools to improve learners’ reading skills as we work to recover from the pandemic.
