Abstract

This paper describes the development of the WISERD Geoportal (WGP) – an innovative web-based GIS for improving the discovery of social science research data in Wales. The research focuses on the key methods used in the building of the WGP, including the creation of a rich database containing metadata for socio-economic data in Wales and the development of the application using an open source software stack. In the conference presentation we will offer our thoughts on the future developments of the WGP, its ongoing sustainability and its potential importance in the social science research landscape.
