Abstract

This research project was completed in 2016. This was a culmination of a ten year project collaboration with the Elvis Tribute Artist scene in south Wales and the community of Porthcawl. The project was initiated in response to negative film portrayals of the community and through a collaborative mode of engagement sought to engage the true complexity of the lives of those involved. The work was based on a unique 'behind the scenes' access to the festival and intensive filming throughout 2010 and 2011. We collaborated with local church groups, schools, clubs, pubs and venues and with the Elvis Tribute scene in UK and USA. The film was produced and directed by David Barnes (birdhouse films). Asst producer and director Jacob Parish (BBC/ SKY/ SILVERBACK FILMS) and Executive produced by Mark Atkins (editor of Nick Broomfield's 'Biggie and Tupac' and Kurt and Courtney). DOP Woody James (BBC Imagine, Aljazeera THE ARCHITECTURE OF VIOLENCE, THE DIVIDE http://www.woodyjamesdp.com/documentary ) Editor Ben Edwards.

The film was award winner of best Welsh film at widf.info and has screened at festivals and cinemas across the UK
