Abstract

This chapter will discuss the commercialisation of the forensic science market in England and Wales. The current mixed economy provision of forensic science to police forces will be discussed and the potential impact that this has upon criminal investigation – in particular, homicide. An overview on how the forensic sciences support homicide investigations and the historical and contemporary changes to these provisions are discussed in light of the potential benefits and risks to justice.
