Abstract

This chapter focuses on supporting male victims/survivors of Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) and is organised in two sections. Section one provides a personal reflection from the Chairman of the Mankind Initiative, Mark Brooks, and the work of the charity over the past two decades. Accompanying section one, is a service and policy perspective, including the challenges encountered by The Mankind Initiative, for example, the lack of public funding, and reliance on voluntary contributions and fundraising to sustain its work, in particular the confidential helpline, which is at the heart of the organisation. Section two centres on the broader landscape of support for abused men in the UK and considers the availability of provision, gaps and developments, as well as the persisting challenges for DVA organisations. Section two concludes with a case study from a male survivor.
