Abstract
The Unit for Development in Intellectual Disabilities (Faculty of Health Sport and Science, University of Glamorgan) in partnership with New Pathways (Merthyr) and Rhondda Cynon Taff People First have been awarded a grant of £417,633 by the Big Lottery Fund New Pathways are the grant holders The grant will be used to undertake a three-year study The study will explore what people with learning disabilities understand by abuse, what help and support they need to keep themselves safe from abuse and, if someone has been abused, what are the best ways to provide support The project is participatory in nature and will actively involve people with learning disabilities at all stages of the research process: three people with learning disabilities will be employed as co-researchers The aim is to produce knowledge which can be used to directly inform and improve the support which people with learning disabilities receive Staff are currently being recruited.
