    Abstract

This chapter focuses on spiritual care competencies and how Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) can develop these. A framework developed from a recent European project, ‘Enhancing Nurses and Midwives Competence in Providing Spiritual Care through Innovative Education and Compassionate Care’, provides details of spiritual care competencies and how these can be applied in practice. This chapter also identifies some of the concepts within spiritual care competencies which APNs need to develop and integrate spirituality into practice. A short case study finishes the chapter illustrating aspects of the spiritual care competencies.
