Abstract

Some small collections of spectroscopic data have been available on the internet virtually since its inception. At the end of 1999 the first database producer went on-line with a full web based spectroscopic database application. A close collaboration between LabControl in Cologne, Germany, and Chemical Concepts in Weinheim, Germany, has produced a stable browser-based application programmed in Java which allows - for the first time - the functionality of a workstation database client/server application through the use of the http protocol allowing upload of spectra and structures and access to over 660,000 data sets.
