Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

This presentation introduces the Audio Essay as an innovative, AI-supported assessment format designed for postgraduate Music Engineering & Production students at the University of South Wales. The Audio Essay replaces traditional written assignments with a research-driven, broadcast-quality sonic format that integrates academic argument, narration, sound design and primary research. The session demonstrates how this assessment enhances student engagement, supports inclusive practice, and aligns with sector-wide shifts toward authentic, digital-first assessments. Examples from student work illustrate the method’s impact on feedback literacy, creative scholarship and professional skill development within an AI-enabled learning environment.
