    Abstract

Social entrepreneurship is now embedded within policy objectives set by national and devolved regional governments. This paper provides an overview of who is involved in social entrepreneurship and where these activities are in Wales. Welsh social entrepreneurs are generally similar in many respects to mainstream entrepreneurs. Involvement is more likely if better educated or if there are wealthier individuals locally or in-migrants from other parts of the UK. Those areas with higher levels of entrepreneurial activity also appear to display higher levels of social enterprise. More prosperous local authorities have an abundance of social enterprise presence, whilst those suffering from higher levels of unemployment potentially face a dearth.
