Abstract
This is an extensive 25,000 word conversation with the two Artistic Directors of Australia's renowned dance-theatre company: Marrugeku. The conversation tracks the development of innovative work over twenty five years. Marrugeku's inventive work reaches remote indigenous communities in the northern Australia to to international audiences around the world. Their work began in the small Kunwinjku community of Kunbarjanja in Arnhem Land and now continues in Yawuru Country in the Western Australian town of Broome and the urban centre of Gadigal in Sydney. The conversation delves into the professional formation of the two leading artists of the company and explores in depth intercultural and intergenerational issues that the company addresses through highly distinctive choreography and dramaturgy.
