Abstract

Quality function deployment is a management tool that provides the means of translating customer requirements into appropriate technical requirements for each stage of a product or service development. The structure provided by QFD can be of significant benefit to companies, yet it is an extremely under-utilized tool. This article introduces QFD, outlines how it can be used, compares its customary practice around the world and identifies some of its problems and benefits.
