Abstract

The Welsh Schools and Colleges (WSC) league involves junior players aged from 16 to 18 years-old. It is a key part of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) player pathway, including players who sit outside of academy system. Currently, little is known about the physical attributes of these individuals and how they compare to other cohorts. To address this gap in knowledge the WSC teams are required to attend biannual physical profiling for the purpose of talent identification, player tracking and to support the development of national standards at University of South Wales. The purpose of this study was to report the pre-season physical fitness characteristics of WSC league players and provide position-specific normative benchmarks.
