Abstract
Our illustrated practice-led presentation examines the process of creation of on-going interdisciplinary, multi-media and multi-platform projects, a major component of whose structure was determined by chance discoveries of postcards in a street market in Montevideo. Building on a project in which postcards were an integral part of an exhibition in text and image at the Wales Millennium Centre in June 2007, (see www.falkland-diaries.org.uk ) the authors continued with published novel called Far South under the heteronym David Spellman, and a website called The Far South Project www.far-south.org with text, image, graphic novel, sound and film files. The used postcards were from Israel, Iguazu, Bariloche, the USA and other countries, along with discarded photographs and a battered pencil case. The postcards led us into fictional narratives based on historical events including the Falklands War, the 1982 invasion of Lebanon by Israel, the dictatorship period in South America, and modern day conflicts in the Middle East and the novel and website examine the connections among these global events.
