    Abstract

Over the past 20 years researchers have explored if, and how, young people can develop life skills as a result of participating in sport. Furthermore, researchers have focused on the development and testing of theoretical models of life skills, the development of life skills measures, the evaluation of life skills development programs, and the exploration of life skills transfer. Due to this expanding literature base, we provide a critical review of this literature with the purpose of highlighting how sport can develop life skills. We also provide specific future research directions to advance knowledge and practice.
