Abstract

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides contemporary debate regarding reflective practice, focusing specifically on the evidence underpinning the advocated efficacy of reflective practice, and explores the meaning of reflective practice and its evolution within Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES) and allied disciplines. It argues that reflective practice has become more widely embedded within education, professional training, and professional proficiency standards. The book explores the importance of reflective practice in preparing practitioners for the nature of applied SES service delivery, as well as issues relating to organisational reflection, facilitating reflective practice in others, and novel approaches to reflective practice. It offers a variety of personal insights into reflective practice, including examples of: how reflective practice facilitates effective service delivery.
