Abstract
An open invitation to submit case studies of inter-professional education (IPE) was issued to Higher Education Institutions in Wales in 2008-2009. The 13 submissions are presented here and include case studies from 6 Higher Education Institutions. They cover students and staff from health and social care disciplines, with one case also including magistrates and early years practitioners. Six of the case studies include students and staff from social work. The first three case studies are ‘extra-curricular’ and demonstrate how continuing professional development, involvement in networks and groups, and less formal settings can promote inter-professional learning. The five postgraduate case studies reflect changing practices and new or extended practice roles. One of the case studies describes the development of a trans-national inter-professional programme. The remaining five case studies explore IPE opportunities at the undergraduate, pre-registration level. The case studies include: Issues in collaboration between undergraduate professional qualifying programmes of youth work and social work; and An interprofessional approach to understanding domestic and sexual abuse within society; and BSc Health and Social Care: working together.
