Abstract
This essay explores issues that include Robert Barker's panoramic paintings, the commodification of the sublime, and the newly emerging condition of metamodernism, argued by some in recent years to have usurped the dominance of postmodernism. It also addresses Bourriard's theory of relational aesthetics, originally posited in 1996 and remarkably prescient in view of the increasing emphasis on interactivity and participation in contemporary creative practice.
