Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is often viewed in terms of its effects on children and young adults, with under 1 per cent of studies even considering older adults. This is a serious oversight - the current study of middle aged adults with high functioning ASD reveals serious psychiatric and health problems remain in significantly higher proportions in the older population. The implications for health and social care policy are discussed.
