Abstract
The Homicide Investigation and Forensic Science (HIFS) Project sought to provide a detailed understanding of how forensic sciences and technologies (FSTs) contribute to the police investigation of homicide in Britain. The Symposium, hosted by Professor Fiona Brookman, Dr Helen Jones, Professor Robin Williams and Professor Jim Fraser, aimed to exchange findings of recent research on homicide investigation and forensic science practice and to discuss and debate gaps in knowledge. The Symposium was attended by a select group of leading academics,
practitioners and policy-makers from across the UK and Europe, with expertise in the fields of homicide investigation, forensic science and digital technology. The group included senior investigating officers, forensic scientists and managers from public and private forensic science providers, senior prosecutors and the Forensic Science Regulator.
