Abstract

The recent promise by the conservative and liberal coalition government to roll back state intrusion within the field of civil liberties by introducing measures such as scrapping the ID card scheme, further regulation of the use of CCTV and safeguards against the mis-use of anti-terrorism legislation appears, on the face of it, to be far reaching and liberal.
