    Abstract

    Context and Purpose:

The fourth industrial revolution has piqued the interest of academics and practitioners alike. Most of the interest to date has focused on the exploration of adopting associated technologies from either an engineering or a computer science perspective. Research relating to the relationship between Industry 4.0 and Quality is however limited, with the two dominant lenses progressing research in different directions. The purpose of this paper is to address the need for a more focused approach towards Quality Improvement and Quality Management.

    Methodology/ Approach:
A systematic literature review exploring the theoretical and practical advancements of Industry 4.0 through the lens of Quality Management. The approach adopted is that proposed by Tranfield et al (2003), offering critical analysis and synthesis of the extant literature.

    Findings:
The findings will be presented in the form of a critical evaluation of the literature identified through the systematic literature review, exploring the different perspectives which contribute to the current understanding of the relationship between technology and quality management, presenting conceptual clarity in the currently fragmented field.

    Originality/Value:
This paper advances the understanding of both Quality and Industry 4.0 by going beyond the established boundaries, synthesizing the fields to generate a conceptual framework to map out state-of-the-art knowledge of this important field. The paper concludes with an agenda for future research, to further advance the field.
