Abstract

Supporting people with learning disabilities can give rise to a number of ethical issues and dilemmas. These dilemmas can challenge our personal and professional value bases. Different ethical perspectives enable us to consider situations from alternative standpoints. Consideration of the ethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice can assist in identifying the key issues within given situations. A structured approach to resolving ethical dilemmas is recommended.
