Abstract
This article contextualizes the so-called World of Copper, a period of growth and integration in the global copper industry under the hegemony of Swansea. It traces the dynamics of expansion and contraction in the mid-nineteenth century; it describes the organizational forms taken by mining and smelting companies; and it focuses on the importance of human movement for the burgeoning World of Copper.
