Abstract
This chapter examines the main causes of material deterioration and discusses measures to prevent such damage. It considers various aspects of durability of sustainable concrete materials. The chapter begins by reviewing the technological background for durability and addressing the reasons for durability problems. The chapter identifies the effect of use of supplementary cementitious materials on durability and examines the processes involved in building defects and failures caused by the materials.
