Abstract
The chapter documents a series of visits made to special needs schools (SNEs) in England and Wales to observe the variety of ways in which sensory spaces are used with children with multiple sensory impairments. A history behind the evolution of the multisensory environment is provided by way of introduction to the research project which places a firm emphasis on observing the contrasting ways in which music and sound are used in such spaces. Though there is some mention of commercial products within the resources that were observed, the project was just as concerned with finding out about handmade and/or repurposed technologies that might be in use. The same is true of contrasting techniques and practices that might exist in different SNEs. Based on the collected observations made, some informal design considerations are suggested by way of conclusion to the project as a whole.
