Abstract

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) put forward a tender for a rapid literature review surrounding barriers to dementia diagnosis in the UK for those over 65. A review team was put together. This included:
• Dr Sion Tetlow, review lead
• Lowri Morgan, CTMUHB representative
• Professor Carolyn Wallace, USW faculty
• Professor Roiyah Saltus, USW faculty
• Professor Stuart Todd, USW faculty
• Dr Llinos Spencer, USW faculty
A protocol was designed by the team to guide the rapid review. This is included in the appendix of this report. The protocol included information such as the inclusion/exclusion criteria for literature, the databases we would use and the potential search strings we would use for the review searches The research question for the project was:
• What are the barriers to obtaining a dementia diagnosis for people over 65 in the UK?
The review began with an initial title screen and abstract screen conducted by Dr Tetlow and second reviewed by Professor Saltus and Professor Wallace. Following this, papers were selected for full text extraction and included in the review. A full PRISMA diagram is included below to elucidate the process of this. This is standard rapid review methodology and is taken from the systematic review method. (Thomas et al, 2019).
