Abstract

A new Concentration Modulation technique has been developed at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, U.K., capable of markedly extending the sensitivity limits in Absorption Spectroscopy. By relating Gain and Transmittance values direct measurement of spectroscopic concentrations become possible for the first time. The use of picosecond lasers enables lifetime determinations down to ∼ 20 ps. Some of the applications for this highly sensitive technique will be presented.
