    Abstract

This monograph will be the first book-length study of the work of Christopher Meredith. A bilingual writer who writes mainly in English about Wales, Meredith is a novelist, poet, critic and translator. His oeuvre includes four novels, notably Shifts, generally accepted as the classic account of post-industrialisation in Wales, and four collections of poetry. This study offers detailed analyses of his fiction and poetry, reading across both genres to identify key themes with a particular focus on his concerns with place, language and history.
