Building a world class research infrastructure in Wales

Abstract

1st paragraph It is important for all healthcare professionals to realise, have knowledge of and engage with the development of the new research infrastructures within the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. The development of these new initiatives within the four countries of the UK are the result of two major reports from the Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS, 2006) and the Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team (BIGT, 2003) that highlighted the necessity to strengthen clinical research in the UK. The Government’s reaction to these reports was the acknowledgement that the bioscience industry is an important component of our economy in terms of ‘both jobs and wealth creation’(Department of Health, 2003). ..............
