    Abstract

This paper describes the design of an automatic test system for stepper motors. The system is configured in modular form to allow a variety of experiments for teaching purposes to be demonstrated. The project design and status of the ATS hardware are described. Initial experiments have been performed on a stepper motor driven system within UWIST. The experimental results are analysed and used to identify the type of data that will be required from the ATS. The step response of a stepper motor is analysed and a method of identifying faulty systems suggested.
