Abstract
The introduction of situational crime prevention initiatives such as alley-gating has become prominent across the UK. For practitioners and policy makers alike, erecting steel gates at entrances to alleys is often seen as a panacea for reducing certain types of crime such as domestic burglary. This paper examines one such initiative at Cadoxton, Barry, South Wales and considers its impact upon recorded domestic burglary statistics within the national context in England and Wales.
