Abstract

This work presents a new compact and inexpensive metamaterial-based patch antenna for UWB applications. The proposed antenna has a size of 20 × 26× 1.5mm3 printed on FR4 dielectric substrate material with 4.3 dielectric constant. A fractional bandwidth from 3.55 to 13.55 GHz corresponding to S11 <-10dB is obtained for the designed structure. The antenna consists of two layers of metamaterials consisting of cross-shaped slots in the center of the substrate and the ground plane, respectively. The simulated results are obtained using the commercial microwave studio simulator CST.
