Description

Housing is a key focus in Welsh policy, highlighted in the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act. One of the Act's housing goals is to incorporate Smart Home Technology—such as smart thermostats, lighting, and security systems—into homes across Wales. This aims to help people live independently longer and reduce reliance on state support.

Registered social landlords and local authorities are increasingly integrating this technology to tackle challenges like Net Zero targets, housing sustainability, and an ageing population. However, limited research exists on how social housing tenants perceive Smart Home Technology, particularly in terms of its financial and health impacts.

This project aims to build knowledge of tenant acceptance through two activities: a systematic literature review and a sector-wide event to explore the barriers and facilitators to technology adoption.
