Project Details

Description

The 18-month project aims to develop a shared understanding of what an inclusive education system should look like in Wales, and to provide resources which will facilitate knowledge development and mobilisation about inclusive education across the sector. We propose several steps to meet this aim.

First, an in-depth audit of Welsh Government policies on inclusive education will identify and provide suggestions to resolve the inconsistent language that had been highlighted in our research (Knight & Crick, 2021; Knight et al., 2023). Next, roundtable discussions with key stakeholders—including parents, teachers, and students— will allow stakeholders to provide their perspectives.

Insights from these discussions will then inform a policy brief, which will be designed to articulate recommendations for policymakers, to be disseminated through Welsh Government channels. Best practices in inclusive education would then be highlighted in case studies across primary, secondary, further education and special schools.
