Description
Funding is part of the ESRC's Centres Transition initiative, which helps research centres make their work more impactful and sustainable. Our research (in collaboration with the WISERD Hub will involve building an Open Social Science and Community Science platform [WISERD Data Lab (WDL)] with user engagement and co-production principles from the outset.
The goal is to undertake impact activities and conduct new research focussed on the ways in which forms of participatory democracy, collaborative governance and citizen science can address urgent collective problems.
It involves:
• Constructing a place-based public facing data laboratory, underpinned by principles of open social science, to enable citizens, communities, and policy actors to fully participate in decisions about policies.
• Strengthening community engagement, helping local citizens work together to mobilize assets and resources, at different scales, in response to pressing social, economic, political, and environmental challenges
• Working with partners to be a world class centre for training and capacity building and developing future social science research leaders
