Media Cymru

Project Details

Description

Media Cymru is a collaboration aimed at accelerating growth in the Cardiff Capital Region's (CCR) media sector, with the goal of establishing it as a global hub for innovation. The initiative is supported by £22 million from UK Research and Innovation’s Strength in Places Fund, £3 million from Cardiff Capital Region, £1 million from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales, and £23 million in match funding from industry and university partners.

The Media Cymru Consortium consists of 22 partners, including broadcasters, studios, and educational institutions, all working together to drive inclusive, sustainable economic growth in Wales’s media sector. USW leads the Skills and Training programme, which bridges education and industry to create a talent pipeline for the region’s screen sector. This programme equips individuals with the relevant skills to meet industry demands, helping to increase job opportunities, foster innovation, and support the growth of the media sector in the Cardiff Capital Region.

By focusing on sustainable and inclusive media innovation, Media Cymru aims to boost the region’s economic development, generate an additional £236 million in gross value added (GVA) by 2026, and create hundreds of jobs. It will also help solidify Cardiff’s position as one of the leading media clusters in the UK, contributing to its global recognition and fostering new products, services, and experiences for international audiences.
