USW is the academic partner in 'Design Optimisation for Solar to Green Hydrogen Plants in South-West Wales,' led by Hydrogen Waves (HyWaves).
The traditional process of hydrogen production through electrolysis involves multiple complex stages of electric power conversion, leading to efficiency losses and high capital expenditure.
This project aims to showcase the efficiency of a novel renewable power management system developed by HyWaves, which eliminates the need for multiple conversion stages. The funding will support the piloting of this optimised design in a ≈50kW solar-hydrogen plant at the University of South Wales, demonstrating its potential applications at the university's Living Lab.
