Project Details

Description

Clwstwr is one of just 9 UK centres for Research and Development (R&D) funded through the AHRC’s Creative Industries Cluster Programme. Clwstwr aims to put innovation at the core of media production in South Wales - moving Cardiff’s thriving screen sector from strength to leadership.

This government investment is the first of its kind in the UK’s vibrant and globally important creative industries, and the most significant that the AHRC has secured in its history. It is part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund delivered by the Arts and Humanities Research Council on behalf of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). Clwstwr works closely with Welsh Government which co-funds our programme of more than 60 R&D projects.

Based in the Cardiff Capital Region, Clwstwr works collaboratively with a host of industry partners and anchor organisations such as BBC, S4C, Arts Council Wales. Ffilm Cymru Wales and Cardiff City Council to fund and deliver innovation in the region’s screen and news sectors.

Clwstwr is a collaborative R&D project between the capital city’s three universities, Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University and University of South Wales. A team of 10 Co-investigators drawn from all 3 universities, led by Professor Ruth McElroy, provides the research underpinning Clwstwr’s programme challenge areas working closely with each individual funded project to inform the R&D process.
