Dr Shelley Gait is a Senior Lecturer, and Programme Lead for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. Shelley leads and teaches a number of modules, and supervises and examines Doctoral, PhD and MA research projects.

Shelley is also a HCPC registered practitioner psychologist and BPS Chartered Counselling Psychologist. As well as her own independent practice, Shelley has worked in a variety of settings, including CAMHS, Primary and Secondary Care, Education, and 3rd sector organisations.

Shelley is a relational practitioner with an interest in systemic, relational psychodynamic and humanistic/existential approaches,  specialising in working with young people. 

 

Shelley’s research interests include:

  • Alternative discourses on psychopathology, mental health, and well-being
  • The intersection between philosophy, politics, and psychotherapy
  • Development across the lifespan
  • Loss, in particular in childhood
  • Bion’s theory of groups and containment.
  • Transperonal 
  • Eco psychotherapy
