Personal profile
Experience
After spending a fair few years acting in short films (including being cast as a piece of dancing chocolate in a Cadbury’s advert for Canadian audiences) and having practiced his own filmmaking, Samo Chandler went to study Film and Video at University of Wales, Newport (now USW).
At University he decided to focus on Offline Editing and Post-Production with the occasional dabbling in Writing. He also buffed up his producing skills specialising in social media & crowdfunding. He was also his class’ Student Year Rep for all 3 years. Samo was awarded the Molinare Award for Best Post-Production at the British Student Film Festival in London for his 2nd year experimental drama, True Repose. Beating several graduate and 3rd year university short films from around the UK. This is his own personal favourite film that he has worked on.
He graduated from University in 2013 and after moving to Cardiff and freelancing for a year, he started working at a boutique Post-Production house in Cardiff Bay as an Assistant Editor, working on projects for S4C, BBC, Channel 4 and for Independent Cinema.
As of early 2016, he left the post-production house and returned to Newport to re-join University of South Wales, but as a member of the faculty teaching Editing. He has overseen the extensive redevelopment of the new Post-Production facilities with our new move to Cardiff, and recently became an Avid Certified Instructor for Avid Media Composer.
He is currently involved in launching and running a new endeavour for FCI, USW Create, which is a multi-pronged initiative which currently involves running Masterclasses, and a mailing list that sends out opportunities to students to get work experience and get involved in collaborative projects.
Otherwise in life, he is currently enjoying life being an Uncle to his Nephew. He enjoys a good mountain hike, and is an avid high end drama and constructed reality TV watcher, and prolific Netflix binger.
