Profile

Rachel Morgan is a Senior Lecturer in Learning Disability Nursing at the University of South Wales, with a professional nursing background spanning nearly two decades. A Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities (RNLD) and a Registered Nurse Teacher (RNT), she brings extensive experience from both clinical and academic settings. Rachel is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an active member of the Learning and Intellectual Disability Nurse Academic Network (LIDNAN).

Rachel’s academic practice is underpinned by a commitment to addressing health inequalities and improving care for individuals with learning disabilities. She is particularly focused on supporting students and healthcare professionals in understanding the complex needs of people with learning disabilities, including those with dementia and life-limiting conditions. Rachel is also a member of the University’s Unit for Development in Intellectual Disabilities (UDID), where she contributes to interdisciplinary research and policy development.

Teaching

Rachel leads and teaches on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules across the School of Care Sciences. Her current teaching and supervision responsibilities include:

- Module Leader:
  - Professional Practice Project (Level 7, 40 credits and 20 credits)
  - MSc Dissertation Module (Level 7, 60 credits)
- Teaching and supervision across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses
- Support for dissertation supervision and academic development

Her teaching draws on key areas of expertise including leadership, ethical and legal aspects of care, and service development for individuals with learning disabilities.

Research Interests

Rachel's research and scholarly activity focuses on:
- Learning disability nursing education and workforce development
- Reducing health inequalities for people with learning disabilities
- End-of-life care, advance care planning, and dementia within learning disability services
- Interprofessional education and leadership in healthcare

She is currently involved in research through her work with the UDID and is contributing to projects aimed at transforming education and care delivery for people with learning disabilities in Wales.
