Research interests

Paul researches pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning practice and actively explores the use of technology to augment teaching practice.  Paul is the course leader for a number of HND and FD Business business-based courses that are delivered at the University and at 9 FE colleges across the South Wales region. Paul is also the Chief University Link Officer for the franchise college network.  Paul's module leadership involves the development and delivery of a number of undergraduate modules primarily in the field of small business enterprise. Paul has won many School and/or Faculty awards in the field of teaching and learning including the University's 'Winner of Winners' award in 2014 and nominated for best lecturer and best course leader by the Students' Union in 2015. Paul has also secured a number of project grants including two projects that aimed to develop and deliver enterprise workshops to inmates at prison sites across the South Wales region in an attempt to reduce re-offending.

Having written and delivered a number of short postgraduate and undergraduate courses in Bahrain, China, Singapore, Finland, France and Germany, Paul has also voluntarily worked with a number of schools and was a member of the executive board for a local charity organisation that helps to improve the lives of individuals with various physical and/or learning disabilities. Paul is an advocate of alternative forms of learning, which features in his PhD study that explores the impact of 'play' on adult learning. Paul often engages in mentoring and championing student teams in a number of practical and enterprise initiatives and in his lecturing role, steadfastly puts students first.

At the time of writing, Paul has 22 publications to his name including journals, book chapters and conference papers, is a committee member of a number of international and European conferences and a reviewer of many conference papers and journals. Finally, Paul has started up and managed a range of businesses over the years.
