Research interests

My research interests include:

  • witchcraft and gender in early modern Germany;
  • witchcraft experiences in Germany and England;
  • masculinity and warfare in early seventeeth-century Germany;
  • early modern history as entertainment.

I am happy to look at proposals for postgraduate research into various aspects of early modern social and cultural history in Germany, England or Wales. These include, but are not limited to, gender, masculinity, friendship, witchcraft and fear. I will also consider proposals to research into the representation of early modern history on film and TV and in museums and other heritage sites.

Teaching interests

My main teaching areas are based on my research interests, including:

  • early modern history,
  • gender history,
  • history of witchcraft and deviance,
  • digital history,
  • early modern history on screen (TV and film).

I teach at all levels of the History undergraduate programme.

I am also the course leader for the Foundation degree in English and History which is taught in partnership with Coleg y Cymoedd (Aberdare Campus), Coleg Gwent (Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone), Cardiff and Vale College (City Campus) and Gower College Swansea (Gorseinon Campus).
