Research interests

I am a molecular geneticist with a background in plant biology and molecular diagnostics. I completed my PhD in plant cell biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands in 2004. My thesis was about the discovery of a new type of plant cell wall loosening protein and its effect on growth and reproduction. I then successfully applied for an Intra-European Marie Curie Fellowship to work on cell division in plants in the Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. From 2009 I continued his research as a Research Fellow at Cardiff University.

In 2015 I joined the University of South Wales as a senior lecturer. I am currently involved in the development of a rapid and affordable molecular testing platform which can be used in the detection of for example COVID-19 and UTIs.

I am collaborating with Public Health Wales, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and various industry partners.

Experience

Since 2018 I have been the lead for the Biological Sciences Research Group.
