Experience

Iain Shewring has been a lecturer at the University of Glamorgan, and then the University of South Wales, for 28 years; teaching both Electronics and Computing topics at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has gained considerable experience in these areas via over 26 years of consultancy and technology transfer activities that has informed and enhanced both his teaching and research.

As Academic Subject Manager for Informatics and Cyber Security (Treforest), he provides academic leadership, budget responsibility, QA, and new course development through leading a team of 20 academics.

Supervision

PhD supervisor and examiner in various subject areas, spanning from Electronics to Computing for 20 years.

Expertise

  • Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).
  • Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
  • Negotiated £2M sponsorship deal with Calypto Systems to supply the University of Glamorgan (now South Wales) with cutting edge Electronics Design Automation tools.
  • University Project Leader for European Commission Framework V project - Sensing, Identification and Data Communication with passive Non-Contact Technologies (SIDCOM).
  • University Project Leader for European Commission Framework IV project - First User (FUSE) Action.
  • Project manager and design authority for the Huntleigh Diagnostics’ Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design project, the product subsequently won the Queens Award for Innovation (2000).
  • Design and delivery of various industrial short courses (Digital Design, Advanced Digital Design, FPGA design techniques and ASIC Design techniques).
  • Consultant to the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI): to support both their Microelectronics in Business (MIB) and Electronics Design (ED) programmes.
  • Technical consultant for Philips Semiconductor.
