Experience

Fiona Howells is a Part -Time Lecturer and Module Leader on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree course at the Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries. She has vast professional and industrial experience gained within the industry, having worked as a Designer, Product Developer and Design Manager for the majority of her career. Her professional practice includes designing and creating clothing ranges for high-street retail outlets, including Marks and Spencer, Debenhams, Knickerbox, Arcadia Group and Peacocks. Fiona compliments her teaching by working on freelance projects; – most recently working as a Freelance Designer and Garment Technologist for Peacocks. This involves initiating the formulation of specification sheets and advising buyers on fit, with the aim of resolving quality control and pattern-cutting/ fit issues with overseas suppliers before the completion of the production process.

Expertise

Fiona has developed a comprehensive machine-knitting programme for the course that combines knit with fabric manipulation techniques. She specialises in textile embellishment and teaches fabric manipulation, drawing with stitch and illustration techniques to the first and second year students.
