My primary research interests are in women’s writing (particularly the inter-war period), historical fiction, Modernism, Welsh writing in English, and the Gothic.
My most recent book, Christopher Meredith (University of Wales Press, 2018), is the first full-length study of the poetry and prose of one of Wales’s most talented and versatile contemporary writers.
Other monographs include Female Gothic Histories: gender, history and the Gothic (University of Wales Press, 2013) which traces the development of Gothic historical fiction from Sophia Lee’s The Recess (1783) through the work of Elizabeth Gaskell, Vernon Lee and Daphne du Maurier to the novels of Sarah Waters. The Woman’s Historical Novel: British Women Writers, 1900-2000 (Palgrave, 2005) is a survey of historical fiction by women, including detailed discussion of writers such as Georgette Heyer, Naomi Mitchison, Sylvia Townsend Warner, Mary Renault, Dorothy Dunnett, Philippa Gregory, A.S. Byatt and Pat Barker.
I am currently working on a study of Modernism and historical fiction.

I teach the first year module, ‘Being Human’, a second year module on ‘Gothic Literature: Dark Desires’, and the third year module, 'Modernism and After.’
