Personal profile
Research interests
I am a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Health Psychologist, British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Psychologist and BPS registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor, Associate Fellow of the BPS and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I was Chair of the BPS Division of Health Psychology, Wales, until the end of my tenure in April 2018. My applied research is in the field of psychosocial aspects of women’s reproductive health and a key interest is in the development and evaluation of interventions to help people cope with difficult medical experiences. General research interests include the psychological factors and processes explaining positive psychological and physical progress during stressful health experiences and adaptive outcomes after such experiences. My research involves infertile women undergoing in vitro fertilisation treatment, women receiving ovarian cancer screening due to a family history of this disease, and women living with uterine fibroids and heavy menstrual bleeding.
A second strand of ongoing research relates to the ways in which people cope with the challenges of caring for a loved one with additional needs, with the aim of developing a coping intervention to support caregivers.
